New school martial training for adults

Train. Laugh. Learn.

Each person trains what they need to train, together. As a group of adults, we workout, learn the skills we need, support each other and have fun. Whether you’re looking for a casual, physical group activity, self-protection skills, or advanced martial arts you can find it here.

To know thyself and to move through life with grace.

To become fearless in living life how we want to live, fulfilling our truth with compassion.

To rest assured in the knowledge that our bodies are fit, healthy, and capable of defending themselves.

To develop a community that we know is here for us whenever we face hardship and is invested in our personal growth.

Classes are 90 minutes, beginning and ending promptly. The general schedule is:

  • Social Warm-up (10 minutes)
  • A functional workout (20 minutes)
  • Skill development (about 45 minutes)
  • Cooldown/discussion (about 15 minutes)

No. You are equally welcome here if you’ve never done anything like this or are an advanced martial artist in a specific discipline. We can all work on our respective skills together and contribute our unique experiences and perspectives to mutual growth.

No. Nami Bujutsu classes are for all humans age 18 or older.

If you would like to practice in a specific group (i.e, women only, family with children under 18, etc.) for one-off workshops/events or ongoing classes, don’t hesitate to contact us.

Being a safe place is of the utmost importance for this work. Your physical and emotional well-being is my highest priority.

The only expectation is that you are willing to engage in such discomforts constructively by communicating with me. Whatever it is, we can face it together and determine the most skillful way forward.

I do want to be clear that training is supposed to be a place to explore your edges. Anytime we push ourselves we will find limiting beliefs and, one-by-one, we address them. Each time we do we become more sound in body, mind, and spirit.

No.

Each person’s Nami Bujutsu journey is unique and will go through peaks, valleys, and plateaus. Each person will progress in the skill sets that are appropriate for them in their own time.

That said, don’t expect to make progress if you don’t come to class regularly. This kind of training is like boiling water. It takes a lot of energy to get it going, and if you stop applying that energy it stops boiling.

You are welcome to show up flying solo. You are also welcome to come and train with a partner or friend.

During classes we try and work with everyone; it provides the best training. I recognize that this can be uncomfortable at first and am happy to pair partners/friends together until the group “gels” and we become more comfortable with each other.

My only request is that any person who comes to practice is here because they truly want to be here.

Whatever you would typically wear to work out or exercise is the best call. You shouldn’t need to bring anything, but if you prefer to stretch or warm-up on a yoga mat you’re welcome to bring that.

Please note that we train barefoot barring certain medical necessities. Please let us know if you require an exception to barefoot training.
